Why do we need Confined Space training?

Confined space work consists of jobs in places that are not meant to be inhabited by humans, even for a limited amount of time. These areas often have poor ventilation which can be very hazardous, especially if the space is small. It can sometimes be fatal due to many factors such as lack of oxygen, situations that allow an explosion or airborne contaminants. Incidents can also occur if a worker becomes stuck in flood waters, sewerage, smoke or dirt.

This is why the training is so crucial.

5 Benefits from Confined Space Training:

  1. The NSS Confined space training courses are designed to assist employees and employers in understanding the hazards, legislative requirements, codes of practice and Australia Standards needed to enter and work in a confined space. It also helps workers understand what constitutes a confined space. Creating an awareness around the hazards in confined spaces will allow workers to exercise caution if anything was to happen.

  2. During the confined space training, we will cover the importance of atmosphere testing and discuss the reasons to why the testing can better help workers prepare to enter a confined space. We also explain what equipment the workers use to work safely in that area.

  3. Confined Space training will also train managers and companies to determine the risks associated with a specific types of confined space work. Giving them this knowledge will ensure that they make decisions in regards to the type of equipment necessary to ensure the safety of their worker as well as allow them to put into place emergency procedures that could save a life should an accident occur.

  4. Confined space training will discuss both the legal obligations that a company must uphold in terms of seeing that all those working in confined spaces have the proper qualifications and certificates that are needed before any worker works in this type of situation.

  5. Confined Space training isn’t only for workers for companies but also for farmers who are working in these types of areas such as silos. Learning how to enter and exit safety and correctly, along with how to work safely inside these areas.

Knowing what to do before you enter a confined space, what to watch for while you are in that confined space and how to get out safely will ensure that you will be free to complete the job safely.
